What Sets You Apart?

In every industry there are areas of specialty, and in the beauty industry we are no different.  I cringe when I hear the words "I'm just a hairdresser" uttered from the mouths of licensed individuals who apparently have very little respect and self worth for their career and themselves!

As a group we must embrace the gift of artistic talent which attracted you to a career in cosmetology,  as a team we must maintain a level of respect for our craft and ourselves.
Ask yourself would you choose a healthcare practitioner based on price or their education, level of quality and reputation?  Most would opt for the educated professional, and so it is with a stylist I feel.  Self love, a passion for continual education growth and respect for your career will reflect in your success!
Drama, negativity and criticism of yourself and others is a recipe for an unsuccessful career experience, focus on the beauty, art and pleasure your job brings you.  I feel so very lucky to do what I love and get paid for it!

Perhaps you may need some support, there are number of wonderful support groups for every need, you must simply look.  Also remember, if you continue to do the same thing, you will get the same result.
Stay positive, grow through education and never take the client for granted.

Have a Great Day!

Who Should Open a Salon?

The answer to this question may have a diverse response depending on who you ask. As with all business ventures, not everyone is an ideal fit to own and operate a salon.  Careful consideration must be given to many details of the business, the nature of the investment and most importantly the reason and understanding of thebeauty industry.

I have experienced many investors  ignoring the facts that "behind the chair" experience and the value of your staff are crucial to operating a successful salon.  Thus resulting in a negative outcome.

Higher Education

As with any career education is key to growth.  But have many stylist fallen short of maintaining a positive attitude toward education?  As we move forward in our careers it is easy to get stuck and do the same things over and over, leading to a dull and limited career. (in my opinion)

If we are to change the misconception of the industry as a positive career choice for young adults we must stand strong as an industry and share consistency in growth!

Recently I had an interesting experience, let me explain.........
At the end of a recent workshop I taught, a woman approached me and told me a story, this was a story I  heard before  about how upset the woman was that her daughter wanted to attend beauty school  and forgo college at this time.  She was overwhelmed with concern that her daughter was making a big mistake, until she heard my speech at the workshop.  She told me she was ashamed at how she had perceived hairdressers and was impressed at what I had done with my career.  I shared positive and true insight to this group and apparently many consumers are truly in the dark about the amount of education, integrity and professionalism atrue career cosmetologist maintains.
This showed me that the beauty industry still carries a negative stigma to some degree and it needs to change if every licensed industry professional holds themselves accountable for their professionalism and integrity soon this old idea will be history!

Love and respect your craft!
